The only Perfume Museum in Africa

A CHARMING STOP ON A FRANSCHHOEK DAY TRIP
Just an hour’s scenic drive from Cape Town lies the wine valley of Franschhoek and one of its unusual attractions: Africa’s only perfume museum. Quiet, and memorable, it traces the history and craft of perfume.

Informative displays explain how scents are created, an enchanting collection of antique perfume bottles reveals the artistry of their design.

In the 1920s Hollywood stars influenced a boom in popularity of Bohemian Crystal; bottles were sold empty and filled at department stores.

In the late 19th century, glassmakers learned to add rare earth metals to their glass formulas to create coloured glass.

A rich collection of beautiful pieces each telling a story of loving craftsmanship. The Bohemian industry was sadly destroyed by WWII never to return.

The Perfume Museum is located within the historic Huguenot Museum complex; a beautiful and tranquil place worth a visit on its own.

And then on your way back to Cape Town, stop for lunch in the gardens of the Grande Provence Heritage Wine Estate, my favourite place to stop and chill in this beautiful valley.
